Dancing inBlack & White

Six dancers, one bare wall and a single window. The brief was to photograph ballet without the theatre: no stage lights, no costumes beyond what the dancers wore to rehearsal.

We worked in short bursts between their sessions, waiting for the moment a pose stopped being a pose and became a person catching their breath.

The series was printed large and shown alongside the company’s spring programme.
